Hurricane Emily & the Moon

April 26th, 2007

I'm sure this image will be making the rounds before long,
but maybe you'll see it here first. :-)

Dysfunctional Keyboard Shortcuts in Photoshop

April 3rd, 2007

Okay, I know most of you won't care about this little
issue, but it was driving me crazy until I (think!) I
figure it out.

Photoshop CS2, seemingly without any warning or system
changes, started using large amounts of memory even
when I wasn't using it, eventually causing it to crash or
stop responding properly to the system. An especially
annoying side effect of this, however, was that all the
Ctrl+... keyboard shortcuts stopped working! I tried
every troubleshooting technique I could think of and
completely reinstalled CS2, etc, to no avail. At last I
stumbled across this Adobe Forums thread and that gave
me the idea of removing some of the fonts I had installed
and, voila, what do you know. The memory-eating problem
disappeared and the broken keyboard shortcuts once again
functioned like new!

Ping Pong Lessons

September 7th, 2006

And they'd censure me for calling it that, heh... But if you're in the
Mercersburg, PA area and looking for Table Tennis lessons, don't hesitate
to check them out.

Ndiswrapper Module Errors

June 9th, 2006

Just for archival purposes: if you're getting the "invalid module format" error when executing "modprobe ndiswrapper" especially under Fedora Core 5, but probably under other versions of Linux as well, make sure that the kernel-sources version is EXACTLY the same as your kernel version. By exactly, I mean not just the version numbers but also the i586/i686 version, etc. Just a tip. :-)

Ending 'Tolerance'

June 4th, 2006

I read a most interesting article today:

My friends in liberal Manhattan were appalled. "It could never happen here," they insisted. But it is happening there--at the corner of 70th and Broadway. The Sherman Square condominium tower rejected the application of an unmarried couple. (No, the couple is not gay.) The co-op says it isn't a moral judgment. It feels it shouldn't be forced into a legal contract with two people who are not even willing to be legally bound to each other. Isn't that reasonable?

Isn't that extraordinary... It took someone clear-minded and willing to face disapproval to acknowledge that people unwilling to commit to each other are, inherently, not stable.

The article is about people getting sick of tolerance.

Infection

April 1st, 2006

Ladies and gentlemen: I have an announcement.

For the first time in over six years, I have had a
virus/spamware infection. I know this may come as a
shock to many of you... As much as I preach and warn
folks (not to mention repair/reinstall their computers),
you'd think I'd be impervious to foolish, unwise
mistakes like this.

But I wasn't.

The next six or so hours were spent trying to clear
this hideous beast from my computer, but alas, I had
no success in the removal of "Look2Me" until I found
this wonderful Look2Me Destroyer which did such a
wonderful job that I sent the guy $5 and linked to him
from my blog!

Chance (as in Evolution)

March 16th, 2006

[chuckling] As usual, Mr. PZ Myers — biology something-or-rather and
rabid atheist extraordinaire — proceeds to describe predominantly
intelligently-guided events as if they were purely chance occurrences,
in an attempt to mock Intelligent Design and/or Creationist points of
view. In doing so, he only succeeds in making it plainly clear that the
outcome of said events was the result of anything but chance!

People like him are so much fun. :-)

Mission Impossible Clue(less)

March 8th, 2006

Well, it started out well enough... I heard there were some
good prizes for participating in the MI:III Hunt, and was off
to a respectable running start on the first three clues.

However, all good things must come to an end, I suppose,
since this clue left me clueless:

Tonight the stars come out - search for the car seen in the trailer to see what the biggest are driving Update: answer here!

And this latest one also has me stumped:

Miss Yancy missed her connection in a city where M:I:III was filmed. Connect with her on that guy's list. Update: send an email

Yah. I tried a bunch of searches and stuff; came up with all of nothing.

*Sigh*
